President Elect Application

Applications due by

1. The completed online application.
2. Attachments, including:

  • A Vision Statement: Taking into consideration NODA’s current strategic plan, what is your vision for the association during your term of office and how will you contribute to the advancement of that vision? (bullet point formatted response preferred, please do not copy and paste from Word)
  • A personal statement regarding your desire to be in this elected role, as well as the strengths you bring. Please address your understanding of NODA structures and processes, knowledge of the OTR field and how you will leverage this information to strategically lead and implement change to enhance the Association.  
  • A current resume

3. 3 letters of recommendation/support. One letter must be from your immediate supervisor and must mention your financial support for NODA-related travel with recognition that NODA will not reimburse these costs. Letters of recommendation should address applicants:

  • Experience with strategic planning  
  • Leading diverse groups
  • Demonstrating effective communication with various constituents

4. Read the NODA Conflict of Interest Policy & NODA Leadership Standards & Commitments before completing your application.

5. You must be available for a web-hosted interview with all candidates on Monday, November 28 at 1:00pm (CST). (More details to follow) 

The Nominations Committee may follow up with additional opportunities to promote your candidacy.

President-Elect/President/Past-President Position Description

 

Description

The President of NODA is the chief officer and directs all agents in carrying out the processes and services of the Association. The President chairs the Executive Committee. The President- Elect, President and Past-President are member of the Executive Committee.

The President shall serve as the President-Elect for a one-year term prior to serving as President for one year, and as Past President for a one-year term after serving as President.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  1. Professional membership in NODA for no less than 6 years. NODA membership must be current at application and throughout term
  2. Professional experience in higher education for at least 8 years.
  3. At least 4 years of service in an appointed or elected NODA leadership position.
  4. NODA General Board Member experience
  5. Leadership and management experience that reflects the skills needed to fulfill the President’s responsibilities.
  6. 6. Current employment in orientation, transition and retention and/or student affairs at an institution of higher education at time of application and throughout term
  7. Knowledge of, and commitment to, the structure, purposes, and goals of NODA internationally, nationally and regionally
  8. Current knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to the field of orientation, transition, and retention (Demonstrated higher-level experience in another student affairs association may be considered)
  9. Knowledge and attentiveness to issues relating to diverse constituencies
  10. Ability to think strategically and implement change
  11. Demonstrated contributions to the scholarship of the Association including, but not limited to: conference presentations or publication submission
  12. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills and represent the Board of Directors to the membership with clarity, professionalism, and integrity
  13. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment balancing the needs of the Association Staff, NODA Leadership, NODA membership, and external constituents
  14. Financial support (institutional or personal) is required to cover the travel costs to attend the Board of Director meetings
  15. Qualifications preferred as specified by the NODA Board of Directors 

Preferred Qualifications (articulated by current Board)

 1. Doctorate degree

 2. Demonstrated experience in executive leadership, management and decision-making

 

Primary Responsibilities

President-Elect:

  1. Perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President
  2. Serve on the Executive Committee and attend all meetings (monthly virtual meetings and one transition meeting in January)
  3. Attend three Board of Director meetings (1 in the Fall (annual conference); 1 in the Spring and 1 virtual meeting in July)
  4. Guide the Association Chairs in meeting the mission and strategic plan; May include monthly phone calls and individual check-ins
  5. Complete other duties as delegated by the President
  6. Serve on Personnel Committee
  7. Serve on committee to review all Institute faculty applications
